Brief
The program is designed to prepare and
train a novice to handle a 4WD vehicle in harsh off-road terrain safely
& confidently (rated as medium), to explore the vehicle’s off-roading
capability & to learn about the function of related equipments
including recovery techniques & winching. The various skills learned
will be applied during the actual Expedition Trip, with a medium
difficulty level, subscribing to the “learn - apply - assimilate”
process.
The journey is through one of the oldest rainforest on planet Earth, where
“mother-nature” is the classroom for the life-transforming lessons to
be learned.
Course Content
Vehicle Knowledge, Maintenance Care & Preparations
Inc. Equipment Required
- what to take care of in an off-road vehicle
- what equipment's are required & their usage
- what are the vehicles limits in hill climb / descent, ramp break-over
angle, wading depth
Off-road Driving Skills
- how to drive on different surfaces inc. mud, sand & rocks
- Correct gear selection, care of clutch & best safety speed.
- hill climb / descent, traversing slopes
- climbing / straddling / crossing deep ruts
- river crossing (shallow)
- navigation & guiding skills
Handling Obstacles & Recovery
Techniques
- When & how to use a kinetic strap
- towing stalled vehicles
- winching
- using snatch blocks & hi-lift jacks
- simple bridge building / repair
- making alternative tracks
Expedition Preparations
- what are the etiquettes involved, convoy rules
- safety considerations, what to bring & expect
- what are the issues to look out for.
How You Will Benefit
- You will be able to perform basic
vehicle maintenance in the jungle
- Understand the drive system of a 4WD, thereby able to judge it's
capabilities
- Able to drive the 4WD safely through various terrains
- Able to operate recovery equipments to recover a 4WD in various
conditions
- To communicate between driver and co-driver / navigator on standard hand
signals
- To gain knowledge on various off-road equipment and recovery
equipment
