Rules & Discipline

1.     CAMPSITE DISCIPLINE

Please remember that you are a “visitor” in the jungle, so conduct yourself like one. What you don’t like visitors to do to your home, you don’t do likewise!

Campsite Rule #1:  “Please listen to all briefings and try to remember safety guidelines”

Campsite Rule #2:  “Remember Rule #1”

These are some of the guidelines that should be observed at campsite:

1)       Everyone on the trip is expected to perform their assigned tasks, eg. pitching tent, cooking, cleaning, entertainment, etc. Always try to be helpful, but don’t forget Rule #1!

2)      Put all garbage into proper garbage bags, to be taken out with you when you leave.

3)      Strictly no campfire or open burning.

4)      Restrict your bathing and washing to areas designated by the expedition management.

5)      Toilets for guys and gals have been built at the campsite, so use it. If you have the urge to ‘do it’ in the river, just remember – “Your meals are cooked using water from the same river.”

6)      Don’t swim in fast flowing rivers. Always check the flow of the current before swimming. No matter how strong a swimmer you think you are, the river is always stronger!

7)      Waterfalls and rivers can be very cold. If you can’t stand the chill, don’t be ashamed to admit it. It’s better than to suffer from hypothermia!

8)      Be reminded that stream water may contain bacteria and therefore must be boiled before drinking.

9)      Answer the call of nature only at areas designated by the expedition management. For “emergency cases”, find a suitable place (far away from river!), dig a hole and before you answer the call, check what’s up on your head, your back and your sides. And don’t forget to cover up your mess after that.

10)   Firearms and illegal drugs are strictly not allowed.

11)    The expedition management will not be responsible for your valuables. Anyway, gold chains and diamond rings do not suit the ambience of the jungle. So, keep them at home.

2.     JUNGLE TIPS, DOs and DON’Ts

1)       Do understand that you are going for a 4x4 wheel drive trip. Rolling and pitching will be encountered on the off-road sections. If you get tipsy easily, bring along a plastic bag for the sake of everyone else in your vehicle.

2)      Do expect to be dirty. Your shoes will most probably be wet and muddy – so, don’t dress for a party.

3)      Don’t try to be a hero. The jungle has a tendency to make heroes look like fools.

4)      When your vehicle is stuck, listen to instructions. If you can help, then by all means. If you can’t, then stand aside and observe – you may learn something new and be able to help the next time.

5)      Stay clear of wire rope when the winch is in use.

6)      When using equipment (eg. cangkul, parang, etc.), be aware of others around you.

7)      If you don’t know something, ASK! If you can’t do something, SAY SO! Don’t try to “save face” and end up endangering your own life, or worse, the lives of others!

8)       Never walk or stay in the path (front or back) of a vehicle that is moving or parked on a slope. A sliding vehicle has no control and therefore has no choice but to run over anything in its path – including you!

9)      Don’t pluck or touch the leaves of vegetation that you are unsure of.

10)   Don’t touch any insect or animal (especially the two-legged ones!).

11)    Don’t shout or bad-mouth the jungle.

12)   Don’t cut or damage trees in the jungle.

13)   Don’t wander away from the group. If you are on a trek and need to stop, inform the person in front of you.

14)   If you are lost during the night, hug a tree, don’t move and call for help.

15)   Avoid trees during a thunderstorm – stay in your vehicle.

16)   Do seek medical attention immediately if insects bite you, snake, animal or human – but we do not have any medication for human bites.

17)   Don’t waste drinking water – you don’t know how fast it can be finished.

18)   Don’t panic. In any circumstances, try to remain calm and use your common sense. If no common sense, then just remain calm.

19)   Finally, and most importantly, keep a smile on your face!

20)  Please respect the “Orang Asli” as we would respect other individuals (ADAT RESAM).
